The Ports You Will Visit

Tampa’s location on the Gulf makes it ideal for the Western Caribbean. Itineraries vary by ship and season, but these are the ports you will see most often on cruises from Tampa.

Cozumel seafront

Cozumel, Mexico

The most-visited port from Tampa. World-class snorkeling and diving, beach clubs, and ferries to Playa del Carmen. Excursions can reach the Tulum ruins on the mainland.

Uxmal ruins

Progreso, Mexico

The gateway to the Yucatan: the colonial city of Merida and Maya sites such as Uxmal and Dzibilchaltun. A long pier connects the ship to shore.

Tulum ruins

Costa Maya, Mexico

A purpose-built cruise port with pools and shops, and excursions to Maya ruins and Bacalar lagoon. Becoming less common on Carnival itineraries.

Belize waterfront

Belize

Ships anchor and tender guests in. Cave tubing, zip-lining, Maya ruins and the barrier reef are the big draws.

Roatan waterfront

Roatan, Honduras

Mahogany Bay and Coxen Hole are the cruise piers. Beaches such as West Bay, snorkeling and island tours.

Caribbean shoreline

Grand Cayman

A tender port. Seven Mile Beach, Stingray City sandbar trips and duty-free shopping in George Town.

Key West and Beyond

Key West appears on many shorter sailings from Tampa, especially Margaritaville at Sea Islander trips. It is easy to explore on foot or by trolley: Duval Street, Mallory Square sunset, the Southernmost Point and the Hemingway Home.

Winter-season ships sometimes go farther — to the Bahamas, Panama’s Caribbean coast, or the ABC islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao on longer voyages.

Western Caribbean Questions

What is a typical Western Caribbean cruise from Tampa?

A 6- or 7-night loop such as Roatan, Belize and Cozumel, or Grand Cayman and Cozumel. Shorter 4- and 5-night trips usually visit Cozumel, Progreso or Key West.

Do Tampa cruises still go to Costa Maya?

Less often than before. Reports indicate Carnival is reducing Costa Maya calls, with Carnival Legend’s winter 2026–27 Tampa sailings among the few still scheduled there. Check each itinerary.

Is a passport required for a Mexico cruise from Tampa?

Round-trip cruises from a U.S. port can have different document rules than flying, but a valid passport is strongly recommended and required by some lines and situations. Check your cruise line’s requirements.
